The excellent road conditions, the orography that connects sea and mountains with ascents a few kilometers from the coast, the good weather enjoyed by the Costa Blanca throughout the year... we would never finish if we start listing the factors of this great spot for cyclists and triathletes.
Here are some of the most spectacular events to join if you're looking for a new challenge.
Five Continents Race Costa Blanca is undoubtedly the event of choice for MTB lovers in Alicante, and also one of the most interesting nationally.
Formerly known as the Costa Blanca Bike Race, it's usually one of the premier cycling events of the year. To participate in the individual category, you must have a UCI Elite or Master license, but in the pairs category, it is not necessary to hold a competition license.
It is characterized by very difficult stages with impossible ramps such as Bernia or the ascent of the Antenas del Albir, but its spectacular scenery makes it one of the most popular events in the region.
Its 2023 edition is scheduled from January 26 to 29 in 4 stages ensuring spectacular routes in which cyclists will suffer and at the same time enjoy the tracks and paths of the Costa Blanca region. You can register here!
Although younger than the Five Continents Race Costa Blanca, the Aitana Tour cycling event was recently born with the idea of becoming a leading international event. 4 climbs, 145 km and 2,840 m altimetry make this Gran Fondo the perfect event to discover Alicante by road bike and in the best cycling ambiance. Highlighting the climbs of Confrides, Tudons, Vall d'Ebo and Coll de Rates, four iconic climbs that are a must if you ever enjoy Alicante.
Its price, between 49 and 75 euros, makes the Aitana Tour cycling tour an extremely attractive event to which you can register through its website.
As we mentioned before, Alicante is also a triathlete land, and the ICAN Triathlon in Alicante is a good witness. Starting at Playa del Postiguet in Alicante and finishing at the Plaza del Ayunción, this triathlon is held in Half distance and Aquabike modalities for those who prefer to skip the running segment. Its route owns a positive slope of 620 m, and its participation is open to federated and unfederated members.
You can find all the information and register for the event by clicking here.
MediterraneaTri is the label that gathers up to 3 triathlons scheduled each year in the Valencian Community. The locations chosen are Valencia, Castellón and, of course, Alicante.
With a luxury organization, you can participate without the need for a federative license in the Supersprint, Sprint and Olympic distances. As an appetizer, Alicante is the one with this trio of Valencian triathlons in May. Its circuit runs along the Alicante coast from the historic center to La Cantera, and is characterized by its explosiveness as it’s a circuit with hardly any slope.
You can participate in this event from 15 euros by directly accessing the MediterraneAtri website.
During the month of April, a large number of cyclists gather in Gandia to participate in the ALE Cycling Gandia, an international cycling circuit included in the UCI calendar with a limit of 1,000 participants.
Starting and finishing in Gandia, it crosses the regions of La Safor, La Marina Alta, El Comtat, La Vall d'Albaida and La Costera. On its route, we can enjoy impressive landscapes with heavy-caliber ramps such as Puerto de la Llacuna. It also crosses other usual climbs such as Beniarrés, Benigánim or Pla de Corrals, with double-digit ramps that will put more than one to the test. It has a unique distance of 112 km, and you can check all the information and registrations on the Club Ciclista Escapada website.
