Ride some of the most demanding and iconic cycling routes in southern Europe on this self-guided, single-center road bike tour designed for experienced riders in the Costa Blanca. Based near Fonts de l’Algar, this PRO version features longer distances, higher elevation gain and multiple classic mountain passes, including Coll de Rates, Puerto de Confrides, Puerto de Tudons and Bernia, with alternative route options pushing the challenge even further.
We’ve carefully selected routes that go beyond the postcard views to deliver a true immersion in the inland mountain ranges of Alicante, crossing high plateaus, rugged valleys and traditional villages where cycling culture and daily life go hand in hand. Along the way, you’ll experience the raw character of the Costa Blanca interior, combining physical challenge with spectacular scenery and authentic local atmosphere.
The tour flows through remote mountain roads, vineyard-lined valleys and dramatic coastal sections, offering a perfect balance between high-performance cycling and landscape variety. Long, steady climbs, technical descents and quiet asphalt dominate the experience, making each day a rewarding test of endurance and pacing.
Starting directly from your accommodation, this PRO tour is ideal for strong recreational cyclists, club riders and performance-oriented cyclists looking for a warm-weather training camp. Day 1 – Arrival in Fonts de l’Algar
Arrival in Fonts de l’Algar, near Callosa d’en Sarrià. Welcome meeting and tour briefing. Time to settle into your accommodation and prepare for the demanding cycling days ahead. Optional walk around the Algar waterfalls and river surroundings.
Day 2 – High mountain loop via Tàrbena and Coll de Rates
90.4 km (+2,335 m) or 114 km (+3,010 m)
Challenging mountain loop linking Bolulla, Tàrbena and Castell de Castells, continuing across the high plateau beneath Penya Blanca before rolling through Orba, Sagra, Parcent and Murla. The day finishes with the classic ascent of Coll de Rates before descending back to the Algar valley. A true endurance-focused stage with sustained climbs and long descents on quiet inland roads.
Day 3 – Guadalest Valley and Confrides highlands
95 km (+2,510 m) or 147 km (+3,274 m)
A demanding mountain route climbing steadily through Callosa d’en Sarrià, Benimantell and Confrides along the CV-70, then continuing west through Benasau, Penàguila and Benilloba. The return leg crosses the Guadalest reservoir, followed by a long descent back to Fonts de l’Algar. A day focused on altitude gain, rhythm and endurance.
Day 4 – Bernia climb, Jalon Valley and coastal return
113 km (+2,226 m) or 136 km (+2,760 m)
Scenic mountain-to-coast loop through Bolulla and Tàrbena, passing Castell de Castells and Murla, crossing the Jalon Valley via Parcent and Xaló, and tackling the iconic Bernia climb towards Pinos. The route then descends to Benissa and follows the coast through La Fustera, Calpe and Altea la Vella before turning inland back to the Algar valley.
Day 5 – Confrides, Tudons and Finestrat triple pass
96 km (+2,209 m) or 156 km (+3,519 m)
A high-performance mountain stage linking three of the Costa Blanca’s most iconic climbs. The route ascends towards Guadalest and Puerto de Confrides, continues through Penàguila to tackle the legendary Puerto de Tudons, then descends via Sella and Finestrat. The final effort comes on the Alto de Finestrat, followed by a fast run through La Nucía back to Fonts de l’Algar. A true “queen stage” of the tour.
Day 6 – Departure
After breakfast, the tour comes to an end. Transfer back to Alicante Airport or possibility to extend your stay with extra nights on request.
